About Us
What is the Celtic Link about?
The Celtic Link.com is an idea that was created by two Cornish lads with a passion for Celtic music, dance and it’s people and was inspired during the return trip to Cornwall through the Scottish mountains following the Speyfest festival in Fochabers, North East Scotland.
This website has primarily been set up to supply a useful network of contacts throughout the Celtic music and dance scene and to provide a unique opportunity for festival organisers to have an easily accessible means of finding groups and musicians of all varieties
from all over the Celtic world and beyond! After all, there are a lot of Celtic bands out there that may never get the opportunity to be heard outside of their own locality. Therefore, this site also provides them with the opportunity to be known and share their music and talents to other festivals locally, nationally and internationally.
The second aspect of the website is for festival organisers to be able to advertise and promote their festivals easily on one unique website that is dedicated to a specific purpose. This will be advertised globally and make aware to a vast audience that the festival exists however big or small.
Finally there will be an opportunity to share information and experiences in the discussion forum and also use the community area to communicate with others on a more one-to-one basis, download pictures and create a personal profile for others to see.
As Cornish musicians and dancers we have performed at many Celtic festivals spanning back many years, and it is the sole purpose of The Celtic Link.com to try and create stronger links within the Celtic world of music, dancing and individuals alike.

Who's behind The Celtic Link?

Having been bought up in music and dancing of Cornwall and the other Celtic regions, I took my hands to the piano accordion back in 1993 and have been playing for troyls, ceilidh`s, concerts, competitions and pleasure ever since! Currently playing with the Cornish dance demonstration team and Ceili band, ‘Asteveryn’.
On a constructive note, I have introduced a hefty amount of people in my home town of Truro, Cornwall to ‘rum and shrub` (a Cornish tipple associated with smugglers). Whatever the occasion, this always leads to customary visits to the local tavern for a nice 50/50 measure. Medicinal reasons only of course!
One of the greatest things about being involved in the Celtic music scene is the numerous amounts of people I have met though travelling to and taking part at festivals who all share the same interests musically and culturally and also the friends I have met and still keep in contact with over the years. Some of these poor folk, for over 20 years.
Often I wonder what I would be like if I hadn’t been involved in Celtic music and dancing from such a young age. Something I don’t like to think about now! However, one thing I do know is that it is impossible to explain to a friend that isn’t involved in it what they are missing out on without them experiencing it for themselves. These primarily being, the infectious music, the unparalleled, unique and intimate atmosphere at festivals with the numerous amounts of happy, friendly and accommodating people you get to meet from all corners. The list is endless….. and, of course, they’ll never get to experience the Celtic post festy blues!

Well I’m the serious one of the duo!! Having known Alan since I was 7, and yes that is a very long time ago, surprisingly we are still the best of mates.
I’ve been involved in music and dance since the age of 7, so been doing this for over 23 years, for similar reasons to Alan, very proud of my Cornish and Celtic heritage. Most people on the scene will know me as bugs (that’s Alan’s fault!)
I enjoy the buzz and atmosphere the scene has, so many friends have been made from attending festivals from a young age. Nothing like seeing a good group for the first time, or getting very dizzy doing the strip the willow after a few pints!
Ex champion Cornish dancer, musician (drummer) and now one of the Directors of Lowender Peran, Festival of the Celts in Kernow, just had its 30th year!!.
Started playing the drums at the age of 11, and after a break for a few years, have just taken them back up again, inspired by the beats of Amy Johnson of GiveWay.
Also partial to a rum and shrub, as I think any real Cornishman would be!
Why the Celtic Link.com? - Incredibly passionate about the Celtic world and giving it more of an online presence, one of my main reasons for building this website,
was annoyance at not being able to find one source of all bands, which I could then select the relevant ones to contact, as being a festival director has enough involved without making searching for bands and groups any harder.
Also I want to say a huge thank you to Donald Cuthbertson, without him this site wouldn't be here, so thank you Donald.
We both hope you enjoy using this site and find it useful and informative.
