The single biggest cultural pnenomenon in Cornwall over the recent decades has been the reawakening of interest in Gig Rowing. Having once dwindled to half-a-dozen boats there are now over a hundred that line up for the World Championships every year on Scilly. It is such a great all-comers sport that interest is growing in England, Ireland, Holland, America...
BUT - here's the worry - several English counties adjacent to the Duchy of Cornwall now have teams and, from pure jealousy at Kernow's status as a Celtic country - have invented flags for themselves and are attempting to re-brand our sport as a 'Westcountry tradition'.
Maybe you think it is just small-minded of me to worry about this, but they seem to be perpetually trying to undermine our 'Celtic' status and re-assert Cornwall as just another 'English county'... waddyreckon?
